Final Blog!!

#1 As we watch progress through the film, "The Hurt Locker", how is the idea of realism being used for this movie? What kind of effects do you think this has on the viewers?
I
believe this movie to be very realistic. They do a good preview of what it was actually like during the Iraq War. There have been many reviews saying is it almost so close to reality that it is scary. People who fought in the war actually get flashbacks when watching the movie. They feel like they are there again according to reviews. I think it leaves a major effect on the viewers. Especially for the people that did fight in the Iraq War. If it weren't realistic I believe it would make those people mad because Hollywood would be showing false information. Since it is so real, I think its a good thing and people can feel and be more thankful for the people who have fought for our country.

#2 What do you think is your biggest take away from this class? What would be a suggestion to make the class better for next year?

I think my biggest take away is definitely how I look at movies now. Before this class I never really thought of the small details and how hard it would actually be to act/direct different films. Now every time I watch a movie I find myself thinking about how "that would be so unrealistic" or "I wonder how they did that". I sit there and critique every little thing without even really realizing. A suggestion for next year is definitely make them read parts of the book again because it really opens up your eyes and makes you realize movie making isn't as easy as it seems to be. Which brings up my next suggestion, I think it would be cool for them to make a documentary or a small movie. So they can get the perspective of how hard it really is to act/direct. They will realize how long movie making actually takes and its not as easy as pushing record on a camera.

  1. Your comment about how you watch movies has changed is the exact same way I see it too. Now that we took this class and studied more about film, I watch movies in a different perspective.

  2. Ariel, I agree with what you said in the first question. I think that it is very realistic and that is a good thing because war is one of those things that should not be falsified or exaggerated. I also feel that my view on movies has changed from this class. It is hard to watch films now without getting into the small details or the possible mistakes the movie might portray. Lastly, I agree with what you suggest for next year. That could be a very fun experience for the future students. Great post buddy(:

  3. Ariel, I agree that reading the book, as time consuming as it is, is a very good tool. It told me a lot of good information that I really didn't know before. I didn't mind reading it too much, but some parts were rather dry. I think that should stay in the class, as it was helpful information.

  4. I
Agree that the realism in this film allowed cured to better understand what it is like to be in a war. I disagree that more time should be spent in the film book. It's is not a film art class Ariel!

  5. Great Blog! I found it interesting that the soldiers actually get flashbacks. That goes to show just how real that the movie must actually be. I was glad that Hollywood didn't do much altering to the setting of the film and that caused it to seem more real. I also can't watch movies the way that I used to and this class has made me have a different approach to viewing film. I really like your suggestion about making a movie ourselves and I think that would be an amazing way to learn about film!

  6. Ariel, I like how you answered the first question that we were given. That you think the realism in this movie is so real that is actually scary. I completely agree when you say that! The first suggestion that you gave about reading the book is a good one. When we read that it was things that I didn't know and it educated us on the way it takes to make a film.

  8. I agree with your statement about how the film is so realistic that it is almost scary. When I watched the film, I almost had this feeling of being there. Also I agree with your statement about how this class has changed your perception of film. I catch myself looking more at the angle of the shots, how they filmed it, and different things we learned in this class.
